For my senior totem piece, i decided to go with the dog, as it represents loyalty and willingness to protect it's pack. The dog is a normal dog's head so far, as soon as it becomes fired i will decorate it's face with black and white to go for a celestial appearance. The dog's eyes will have the shape and glow of two moons. I will probably post a second statement post if i remember to do so and if i get that far in the project before this year ends.

I chose to go with a tempera paint with a gloss cover for my additive texture. I went with this treatment to make the project look smooth. I went with blue tempera paint because i wanted to leave a cool presence in the pit.
For this piece i decided to make a mixture of a panda and wolf. The panda is a gentle laid back creature unless provoked, and the wolf is extremely loyal to it's pack and defend what they have claimed. The head and legs belong to the panda family while the body and tail goes to the wolves.
I decided to convey peace and loyalty into this project for the reasons stated in the first paragraph. My love for wolves and pandas inspired me to create this animal mixture. I call this piece the PandaWolf because of my intention to create an art piece that would include both of these animals. The end result wasn't exactly what i was expecting because i was hoping the body would be more detailed to be wolf like, but by the time i realized this, it was already dried and had most of the body parts scored and slipped onto the body. The PandaWolf stands proudly and peacefully, full of patience and loyalty to give to it's loved ones. It is also ready to defend what it has claimed. The legs are stubby like the panda to show that all good things will come to those who wait and go at your own comfortable but reasonable pace. For this additive texture assignment i decided to construct a pit of mystery. It is basically a sinkhole with three spikes in the center of the pit. On the outside, the walls are surrounded and wrapped with other spikes but whose purpose is unknown and ominous.
I created this art piece because i wanted to demonstrate how it felt to be surrounded by unknown elements with the appearance of no hope. However, theres these three spikes in the middle to rescue you from the overwhelming mystery that would consume you into madness. This art piece means a glimmer of hope in a overwhelming corruption that is the world we know today. I call this piece the pit of mystery because your basically trapped in a pit and while you may be hidden from the mysteries of the world no one notices your presence. Then, in the middle these other spikes resemble some of the people in the world who actually notice and would want to care about you. Unfortunately, you've spent so much time in this pit, you believe your only purpose would be to try and keep whatever positive attributes you've acquired alive and happy, even at the cost of your health and life. The spikes surrounding the pit the mystery is the unknown forces at work, mostly negative trying to keep you trapped and controlled. The spikes in the middle is your breakaway from a hypnotic world. This artwork is basically a symbol of slight hope for the hopeless. Artists Create Original ArtFor my sphere project, i decided to carve an animal's paw into my clay sphere. More specifically i decided to carve in a wolf's paw. I wasn't able to surround the sphere with a lot of wolf paws, but i did manage to get two paws carved in at opposite sides. The two paw's would show strength in numbers. Artists Communicate Through Their WorkFor the clay sphere project, I decided to carve in wolf paw's. Instead of carving in just one, i carved in two paws. What i intend for this artwork to say is that there is strength in numbers. It is also intended to show that no matter what, you will have your friends to be there for you.
Which artwork was your most successful? The one artwork i think was the most successful was the carved clay tiles. At first i thought it wasn't going to turn out so good with all the carving i did to my tile. but once i carved the wolf face with the lightning mark on it's forehead and went over it with the oil pastel and tempera, it turned out pretty well in my eyes. my other projects i eventually gave up on due to the setbacks and the lack of time when it's due date came up so close. But, this project turned out to be my best one so far. Discuss one project where you felt like you overcame most obstaclesI believe the carved tile was the one project that helped me overcome most of my obstacles. For instance, i took better care of my clay by not letting it dry out as i did with the other projects.I took time to devise a plan to carve out the tile, i didn't over carve or under carve this project. Finally, it didn't break off or become too hard to carve in, since i carved what i could in the time i had to complete this project. What 2 pieces show your growth as an artist? The carved tile and the clay sphere would show my growth as an artist. For the tile, i carved an outline for a wolf face i planned to make. I carved out his face and ears but left the eyes, nose and lightning mark alone. doing that showed my growth in carving, and managing to keep it moist showed my growth in preventing my clay projects from getting too hard. For the sphere, i pinch potted two semi spheres, scored and slipped the two pieces together. after which, i carved out a wolf's paw on two sides of the sphere. This showed my growth in carving again, and my ability in making pinch pots. This semester you have been very limited in your medium...clay only. Explain this experience for you? What frustrations to you have? What positives to you see by working with only one material?I would have to say this semester using only clay was interesting yet sort of confusing for me. For starters, i have severe doubt in myself when it comes to sculpting, especially with clay. For me, i am more of a sketcher with pencils and other writing utensils. Making things with clay tends to make me nervous, i don't think i'd be able to make a good sculpture, but then they turn out alright. The positive with this is letting me learn to work with clay and being able to make some neat sculptures. The only real frustrations i had with working with clay is when it becomes too dry or when i try something with my clay, i get an entirely different result than what i was going for. All in all, working with clay was alright, but i prefer to draw, paint and sketch than sculpt.
Artists ReflectFor this project we have recently started, we are making holo spheres. I am thinking of carving 4 wolf faces. I don't know what else i could add on besides some lightning or skulls. I am open to any ideas you might have though. If all else fails i'll just stick to the wolf faces. Artists CollaborateFor the sphere project i had an idea of making wolf faces around the whole sphere. So i asked my friend Jeremy for some help. I told him what i had planned and he gave me the best suggestion of making a wolf eye.It would have lightning in it's bloodshot eyes. Otherwise, he told me to go with the wolf Fenris.
Artists Develop Art Making SkillsLast week i attempted to make a clay box, i was waiting for the pieces to get leather hard and started working on my box. The pieces however, became too hard and i had to throw it away in the recycling bucket for clay. This taught me to keep a closer eye on my clay and not let it get too hard next time. Artists Create Original ArtFor the new project of carving clay i didn't know what to put on there to carve away at first. After some thinking though i decided to go with my usual cartoon like wolf head.I begun working on it and carving away as we speak.
Artists Create Original ArtFor the clay box project, i decided to decorate my box with lightning, a skull, a wolf, and spider webs. the skull, wolf and lightning are next to each other in the middle of the side. The webs are on the top and bottom of the box in a sort of halloween theme. Artists Communicate Through Their WorkThis artwork can have multiple meanings, but the meaning i chose to go with is towards my loyalty and wanting to protect my friends. The true meaning of this artwork is showing that i will be a guardian wolf to my friends and anyone who would try to mess with them gets the death penalty. The lightning shows you will be struck down should you ever pose a threat to my loved ones. The webs are to show how easily i can catch you should you let your guard down for even a second.
Artists Communicate Through Their WorkFor this project, i am making a textured box with a removable lid. On the texture roller i went with a skull, lightning, a wolf, and a spider's web on the back. I fear that i may of made some of the web too big or too thick to represent an actual spider's web. Artists CollaborateI wasn't so sure of the texture roller i had so far so i had asked one of my peer's for their advice and criticism. She informed me of what i could do with the lines i drew out to make the spider's web. I immediately tried it, and it turned out okay up until the part where the problems started to occur.
Artists Create Original ArtFor the totem spoon project, i used attributes of my self and animals that i like, the animal i like being the wolf to show i am loyal to my pack of friends by scoring and slipping the wolf into the tip of the spoon. From there, i put up a decoration of lightning to show that if you mess with the storm you will get struck by lightning. The last part of my spoon is from a popular mmoprg called runescape i used one of their icons that represents the fictional god Zaros, the god of fate and control, which shows that i seek balance in oneself. Artists Take RisksFor the parts of my spoon as mentioned earlier, they showed my attributes. Unfortunately i am at a loss as to the locations of my attributes. I have no idea if they're good on where they are or if i should dismantle and relocate the pieces. As for originality, the only part that isn't original is the icon nearest to the spoon mouth. I used that icon because of the god's religion is something that could also describe me.
